Who am I?
Endurance Coach/EWOD Specialist
CrossFit Level 2 Trainer, Doctorate: School of Hard Knocks
What’s my fitness story?
I played lots of team sports growing up. Did Triathlons for 10 years, Running for about 20, the last 8 or so almost exclusively on trails up to Ultra distances. Started CrossFit about 3 years ago at the age of 50.
It was fate—what brought me to Big Lick CrossFit?
I tracked down and Traci and Doug when I found out they were opening up Big Lick and stalked/pestered them until they hired me.
When/Where can you find me at BLCF?
I coach 5 classes each Wednesday. Occasionally help out other times. Bounce around between class times but typically attend 4:30 or 5:30.
Inspiration—What drives me to be a better coach:
I am inspired by how hard the athletes work and trying to help them reach their fitness goals. And I really like the science of fitness, what methods work the best, how can we change things up to help individuals or the box as a whole.
Memory bank—My most rewarding moment as a BLCF coach:
WAY too many to pick one. I think I have become “emotional” more than a few times when I see athletes working to their capacity and smashing through barriers that they have struggled with.
I’ve got dreams, too—My personal goals in fitness and in life are:
To be in shape when I hit 55. I want to do the best I can at this sport of CrossFit and compete at the highest level I can attain. My fitness goals can be summed up by some lines from a famous poem: Do not go gently into that dark night. RAGE! Rage against the fading of the light. I think I got that right. Anyway, I want to do as much as I can, whatever that is.
Step into my world—What you can find me doing when I am not at the box:
I am a husband, father of 2 beautiful (inside and out) girls, follower of Christ (to the best of my ability) and lawyer. Bad singer, pretty good dancer and big sports fan, especially teams from my hometown of Cleveland.
Because I’m awesome—My Superhero Identity:
I would be one of these, “Captain Ancient” (no explanation necessary). Or “Sir Everest” (because I’m old as the hills), or “Captain Dirt” (again, ‘old as’ reference). You get the theme…
Shhh, don’t tell anyone! Something that no one else knows about me:
I played in a band that had gigs around town for a year or two. I was dubbed the “Rapper n Clapper” of the group. I LOVE live music. And I have injured just about every part of my body at one point or another.
