Who am I?
Head Coach and Programming Manager
CrossFit Level 2 Trainer, USA Weightlifting Sports Performance Coach
What’s my fitness story?
I grew up in South Africa, playing all types of ball sports with my older brother and father. Rugby was the sport that got me a scholarship to come and live and play for Radford University. After almost 20 years of Rugby, I decided to try my hand at something else. In order to transfer from a sport like rugby, I needed something physical and competitive….turned out that’s exactly what CrossFit was for me.
It was fate—what brought me to Big Lick CrossFit?
Doug and Traci approached my wife and I in early 2014 to discuss a joint venture. To start something more than just a gym.
When/Where can you find me at BLCF?
I mostly coach the 5:15AM class or the late night class. I also coach the competition team during season. Other than that, I am at the gym during most of my free time, working out and hanging out with friends.
Inspiration—What drives me to be a better coach:
The people who just need some guidance and someone who believes in them.
Memory bank—My most rewarding moment as a BLCF coach:
Too many to count. But my favorite moments are when my athletes finally get it! They finally realize that they are capable of so much more than they ever thought they would be able to achieve…those are my favorite moments.
I’ve got dreams, too—My personal goals in fitness and in life are:
To live until I’m 100…and hopefully qualify for masters one day.
Step into my world—What you can find me doing when I am not at the box:
Online Marketing is what I do for a living, but family is the most important thing to me. Spending time with my wife and our fur-baby Rosie, as well as hanging out with all the awesome friends we have.
Because I’m awesome—My Superhero Identity:
I would be “Captain Positivity” – for obvious reasons
Shhh, don’t tell anyone! Something that no one else knows about me:
I’m the least athletic male in my family.
