What is your role at BLCF?
What certifications do you have?
CrossFit Level 1 Trainer
What’s my fitness story?
Cheerleading, gymnastics, softball, track and field and cross country. I put on the baby weight and had a really hard time taking it off. I started Doug and Traci’s boot camp and got the spark back in me to eat right and work out 3 times a week. Little did I know that spark got put out quickly when I found out they weren’t running the bootcamps anymore and wanted to open a CrossFit box. The last bootcamp Doug and Traci offered had Kurt running a lot of the classes. I knew if Kurt, Doug, and Traci believed we needed CrossFit in our lives then I was along for the ride. I’m so glad I found my way back to feeling like I did when I was a teenager.
When/Where can you find me at BLCF?
I am normally at the 5:15am wolf pack class and usually coach 6:15am and 4:30pm classes.
Inspiration—What drives me to be a better coach:
I am always learning new things from other coaches and I love finding new cues that will help athletes move more efficiently.
Memory bank—My most rewarding moment as a BLCF coach:
I think watching athletes get their first box jump. It is such an intimidating movement but I can remember watching Kit and Amy Dooley get their first one and it was such an exciting moment.
I’ve got dreams, too—My personal goals in fitness and in life are:
When I first started I wanted to lose the baby weight and get down to the size I use to be in college. Now it is just maintaining that weight, continue to build muscle and lose body fat. My other goal is just to set a good example for my kids and show them that being active and making healthy food choices is important and should be a big part of their lives. My last goal is just to be a positive role model for women and help them light that spark to get back to exercising and eating right, burn the mom jeans and get them feeling like a young athlete again. It will help them be a better mom, wife, employee, etc.
Step into my world—What you can find me doing when I am not at the box:
The question is what am I not doing. I am a math teacher at James River High School and sponsor the Key Club. I tutor students before and after school and on the weekends. I am usually running my kids to sports and after school activities during the week. I love just putting my sweat pants on, renting a movie, ordering a salad from taphouse and snuggling up on the couch with my family. In the summer you will find me at the pool watching my kids play and swim.
Shhh, don’t tell anyone! Something that no one else knows about me:
I am a very open and honest person and I think I share all my thoughts and feelings sometimes too much so this is a tough one to answer. If I had to redo my career all over again I would love to be a psychiatrist.
What would your superhero name be?
Captain Underpants: When I am working out I feel like my clothes slow me down…haha. I burn up so fast that I always said I should be allowed to WOD in my underwear. I usually get a 2nd wind or can move faster through a workout in just a sports bra.
